We discovered something extraordinary this year that I need to promote as it is going to revolutionize how we repair lawns and move forward to eliminate damage. We call it SUPERSEED. What you are looking at above are two pictures of the same patch of lawn that were taken about 6 weeks apart, September 8,2023 and October 10, 2023. The difference is a process that I coined called SUPERSEED. Let me explain…
I have been frustrated with the whole process of seeding for some time. Until recently we had not done very much of it and until last year when we faced recovery from the 21′-22′ horrific winter that killed a lot of grass (most of which was preventable if you watered during the winter, but that is another letter). Last year we seeded more than Blade to Blade had done so in the previous ten years combined and we could have quadrupled that number if we had advertised and this is not even addressing the sod that we replaced, which leads me to my next thought.
While most lawn damage can be prevented (check out our blog on the Importance of September), most lawns do not need to be resodded and to make a bold statement with the process that I have developed you can have a lawn that you can run your fingers through in less than two months. IF you choose to SUPERSEED it!
Sodding takes a lot of money as it is very labor intensive and you pay a premium for the instant lawn. What if we could give you a lawn quicker for about 1/3 the cost? Sod is just mature grass but what if we could give you a lawn for a drastically reduced price? The water for establishing a lawn is about the same as growing from seed and both routes take over a year to achieve a mature root structure, so why pay more? That’s the conclusion that I came to.
Here is how I did it. I reverse engineered a highway project that was performed several years ago on the Western Slope. A company who needed to reclaim a $2.5 million dollar bond issue approached the company where I get my products from and said,” We heard that you are doing something different than anybody else. Can you help us?” You see, you cannot use synthetic products to advance seed as it will burn the seed and kill off the newly germinated plant. BUT, you can amplify the germination process if you use organic nutrition and biology! Short story is they used the same biological program that I used to achieve 95% grass coverage that was being mowed on a weekly basis just after six weeks. Here is how it went. I took pictures…

First, it is important to note that there were no tools that were used in this process, so there was no disturbance of the soil.
Day #1, I simply covered the surface with an organic material.

Next, I applied seed, some organic nutrition, a secret material that helps absorb water and prevent dehydration, an application of carbon and biology and soaked it to get the process moving.

After just 4 days I had germination!

One week post-germination. We are on our way…

Ten days post germination…wow!

Three weeks post-germination. I like this picture as there is a contrast between the new and the old grass.

Six weeks later and the new grass resembles the existing lawn. I actually had to turn down the watering after about ten days as it was a little too much. The “secret” product that protects the hydration really worked. It is important to note that this was done later in the season, just in time to beat the potential for frost which would like the seed.
The picture below is what the greater lawn looks as of today, 11.26.23
