It’s been raining a lot lately. I think I am pushing over 8 inches at my house this month already. This will have implications moving forward. The immediate good news is that we get a lot of free water, devoid of chlorine and full of nitrogen (when it is lightning). Let me dispel one myth right now that is giving people a lot of grief and trouble. YOU DO NOT NEED TO WATER  3-4 TIMES PER WEEK! People feel the need to water more because they are not watering deep enough and getting it to the roots of their grass. STOP IT! Adopt the mentality of getting water into the plant and not just on the surface of the grass. If you are watering 10-15 minutes, you are slowly setting your lawn up for failure. Let me explain. The roots will adapt to where the water is. If you water in a shallow manner the roots will grow up, not good! This subjects them to summer heat as you will develop a shallow root structure. This also builds a thicker thatch level which further impedes water from getting to the roots. The 10 minutes that you spent watering is largely evaporating before it can get into the plant, the intended goal. If you water deeply, I promise you it will be better. Try watering at midnight, twice per week, 40-45 minutes for pop ups and 50-60 minutes for rotors.
