I had a customer ask me one time, “Hey Brian, when do we arrive with the lawn”. It was a fair question and I knew what he meant. While the notion of arriving with anything in life is a deep philosophical question with the answer being, well really never. Success is a journey and there is no real destination. A destination meaning that the work to get you there has ceased and you no longer need to work to maintain your trajectory. Worth dwelling on but let’s get back to the lawn shall we. I told him, “Well there are two ways of looking at this. There is the technical side and the practical side.” “The technical side will say that when your soil organic matter content is above 3%, your soil pH is 6.5, your soil has a consistent hydration level of +30% and you can water for over an hour with no runoff, you have a healthy soil and the grass will show it.” “On the practical side, your lawn will need far less water. It will green up earlier and stay green longer. You will have little or no weeds and disease will almost be non-existent. The lawn will grow very consistently, no spiking and your thatch will disappear to a normal level. You will never need to aerate again and power raking will be a thing of the past. Your neighbors will wonder what you are doing to make it look so good and you will have to tell them that you are not doing a lot, the biology is doing almost all of the work. This of course will not be an event but a process but once you achieve certain things in the lawn and maintain a consistently hydrated soil it will never be the same.” I think he understood as we “arrived there” the next year when his lawn progressively became more resilient.

The biological method really does work-IF you work it…
