I have a picture of my lawn last year that I took on April 1st. It was solid green, an effect of the biology in my soil. I have another picture that I too this year on the same day. It took more than a week for the lawn to get to the same color where it was last year. There was not anything wrong with it but was rather a sign of how cold the winter was and also this spring. We held off on any seeding this year because it was so cold. PSA, if you see someone seeding in April please know that you cannot get seed to germinate in April as it is not warm enough. This applies to any seed as it simply is not warm enough. It is interesting that we are getting so much rain combined with a cooler spring. It has been dry over the past two years and to see some numbers stack up on the old rain gauge is really good. It keeps all of the naysayers, busybodies, water deniers and scarcity enthusiasts quiet for a little while. I am going to make a prediction to see how long this trend will last. I am going to go out on a limb, as this is purely a guess and not at all scientific, and say that there will still be snow on the Peak after the 4th of July or that we may get snow on the Peak before Fall. I think we might be getting set up for a hard winter. It was a very cold winter this year and if we had this type of moisture in the mix we would be buying a lot of snow shovels. It is interesting to see the changes in seasons from year to year, some hot, some cool, some wet and some dry and everything in between. It is certainly a nice break from the past. After all we have cities in other states we need to keep hydrated…
