Grass is very trustworthy, it always tells the truth if you know what you are looking at. When things are not going so well and even when things seem to be looking up you can easily examine certain metrics both visible and invisible. It is pretty easy to identify tornado damage in Kansas but it is more difficult to see and understand the forces of the tornado that caused the damage. Using that same analogy it is hard to understand why one house got leveled and why the house next door was untouched. Was it chance, was it better construction, was the reason for the destroyed house a lack of preparation or poor design? There are several variables in a lawn that contribute to it’s success and it’s failure, such as preexisting anomalies in the soil, post-development care, techniques and habits all play a part. The encouraging thing about a lawn, regardless of how good (seemingly) or bad it may be it can be better and all is correctable as soil is very forgiving and it all begins with the soil. Enabling the soil and correcting things such as pH, Calcium, Sulfur, Organic Matter and moisture content. Once these are corrected and misconceptions about proper care are adopted, a very efficient and low maintenance experience can be achieved.
