If the storm on 3.14.24 did not get your attention hopefully the following statement and snow measurements will. We got a LOT of snow. Anywhere from 15″ to over 4′ depending on where you are in El Paso County. Before the statement is uttered, “We are in a drought”, let me assure you that this winter’s precipitation totals combined with the last snowfall, we are in pretty good shape for the spring. We have not even seen half of the snow that I believe is going to fall. We still have the rest of March, April and May to get through. I think that we will be seeing a trend of wetter and cooler Springs. This will keep the ground hydrated for the next month, just in time for the Spring growth. What a good circumstance to be in! The reality however is that there is always damage, typically from the previous Fall, a failure to prep the soil and turf prior to Winter with adequate hydration, nutrition and biology (Microbes!). Our biological system seeks to avoid this dilemma and avoid damage altogether by creating efficiency and continuity in the soil so that we never see damage to begin with, which is largely preventable to begin with. A lawn does not need to be a burden. It can be better, with less struggle…
